CES 2011: Microsoft shows first multitouch Touch mouse

LAS VEGAS -- Microsoft showed a new Touch mouse Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show, a multitouch mouse that lets you use all your fingers.

The wireless mouse has sensors built into the top, so you can use it with one finger, your thumb, two fingers at a time or even three fingers at a time.

"This is the first multitouch mouse for Windows 7," said Hvroje Benko, a researcher at Microsoft Research. "We have several different new gestures to highlight the experience of using Windows 7."

In addition to the standard right click, left click and swiping, the mouse has several new features:

The surface is touch sensitive, so you can scroll around the screen by moving your finger around the top of the mouse, or flicking it up and down on the surface to scroll up and down.

Using your thumb on the side of the mouse, you can move backward and forward through Web pages.

By moving two fingers across the top of the mouse, you can maximize or minimize windows and snap them into the side-by-side split-screen view.

By moving three fingers across the top of the mouse, you can open up a screen to switch between applications or to clear windows off the desktop.

It will be available in June for $79, and is available for pre-order now from Amazon.com and the Microsoft Store.
