March 2011 Hotfix rollup for System Center Data Protection Manager 2010

This hotfix rollup resolves the following issues:

  • When you change the ports that are used by the Data Protection Manager 2010 Remote Access service, recovery jobs may fail.
  • On some client computers, the System volume runs out of space when local shadow copies are created and when the shadow copy storage is set to UNBOUNDED.
  • When you try to use one Data Protection Manager 2010 server to protect more than 1,000 client computers, you receive a warning that states that you cannot protect more than 1,000 client computers by using Data Protection Manager 2010. You receive this message even though Data Protection Manager 2010 can protect up to 3,000 client computers.
  • When you try to use one Data Protection Manager 2010 server to protect more than 1,000 client datasources, you receive a warning that you cannot protect more than 1,000 datasources by using Data Protection Manager 2010. You receive this message even though Data Protection Manager 2010 can protect up to 3,000 client datasources.
  • Data Protection Manager 2010 does not support the IBM System Storage TS2900 Tape Autoloader backup, recovery, or detailed inventory operations. The tape is left behind in the drive after any of these operations.
  • When you use Data Protection Manager 2010 Replication Agent to protect a 1.2 terabyte SQL server that has lots of .ndf secondary data files, Data Protection Manager 2010 Replication Agent crashes.
  • If you are not the administrator on a client computer, you cannot perform an end-user recovery of protected data on the client computer.
  • When there are many client computers that trigger client back up or client recovery operations, corresponding jobs are not triggered on the Data Protection Manager 2010 server. When the Data Protection Manager 2010 server enters this state, any later client backup or client recovery operations are not triggered on the Data Protection Manager 2010 server.
  • Data Protection Manager 2010 experiences slower performance if you try to protect more than 300 client datasources on a secondary Data Protection Manager 2010 server.
  • Data Protection Manager 2010 does not keep a recovery point for a client datasouce that was not synchronized during the retention period.
  • If there are many list items within of a SharePoint List in a SharePoint Content Database, the generation of a SharePoint Item level catalog will fail continuously for the SharePoint Content Database.

Amazon Cloud Drive streams in

Online music locker announced
Amazon Cloud Drive streams in

Amazon has announced a trio of new cloud-based platforms that all fall under its digital locker service - Amazon Cloud.

First up is the actual locker itself, the Amazon Cloud Drive, which allows you to store not only music (MP3 and AAC), but videos, photos and documents as well.

You'll get 5GB of storage for free, and a single Amazon MP3 album purchase bumps this up to 20GB. Tracks purchased direct from Amazon's digital music store do not count towards your allowance, and additional storage can be bought from $20 per year. Everything is nice and secure, courtesy of Amazon's S3 servers.

Once you've got your Cloud Drive loaded up, you'll need somewhere to stream your music. That's where the next two new platforms come in - the Cloud Player for web and the Cloud Player for Android.

The web version works with all the usual browsers and is Mac, PC, Android tablet and Android phone compatible.

The Android version will come bundled with the new Amazon MP3 app, and features the entire digital store as well as a mobile-friendly version of the player.

With both versions, you can upload and download files, stream and manage playlists. Plus, all your music plays back in the bit-rate that your files were originally.

"We're excited to take this leap forward in the digital experience," said Bill Carr, vice president of Movies and Music at Amazon. "The launch of Cloud Drive, Cloud Player for Web and Cloud Player for Android eliminates the need for constant software updates as well as the use of thumb drives and cables to move and manage music."

"Our customers have told us they don't want to download music to their work computers or phones because they find it hard to move music around to different devices.

"Now, whether at work, home, or on the go, customers can buy music from Amazon MP3, store it in the cloud and play it anywhere."

The bad news: You guessed it, it's US-only at the moment. We'll update you as soon as we hear anything UK specific.

US Pocket-lint fans can take it for a spin now.

Sony Ericsson: Xperia Play delayed

EXCLUSIVE: Gets limited release in UK
Sony Ericsson: Xperia Play delayed. Phones, Sony Ericsson, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Vodafone, O2, Orange, 0

The?Sony Ericsson Xperia Play?won't be launching on 1 April on Vodafone as previously planned Pocket-lint has learnt, but may still get a limited release on Friday.

"We can confirm that the Xperia PLAY handsets are still planned to launch in the UK for 1st?April, as originally communicated. However, as of today, we have experienced a freight issue that may impact the number of Xperia PLAYs arriving at some retail outlets. This said, consumers can purchase Xperia PLAY as of April 1st at a number of stores across the UK," a spokesman for the company told Pocket-lint.

Those stores however don't include Vodafone who has?emailed customers who've pre-ordered the new gaming phone dubbed by many as the PlayStation phone on Wednesday to break the bad news, a number of readers have told us.?

?An important update regarding?your?Sony Ericsson Xperia Play from Vodafone,? starts the email before adding the bad news:

?Sony Ericsson have [sic] advised us that they will not?be able to supply the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play?to meet?the original?launch date of 1 April. Unfortunately, this means?there will be a small delay to your order.?

?We are working closely with Sony Ericsson to ensure your phone?is delivered?as soon as possible and we will be in touch again with?specific timescales when we know more.?

?We appreciate this is disappointing and are doing our very best to resolve this as quickly as possible.?

The news is likely to be a massive blow to Sony Ericsson and its launch already marred by O2, who has pushed back the launch due to concerns that the software wasn't up to scratch.

That's not the case here however, Pocket-lint's sources have confirmed.

The Vodafone delay isn't down to software, but merely that the UK stock didn't make the boat in time to get to the UK for 1 April. Oops. ?

Our independent sources confirm Sony Ericsson's comments and suggest that Orange won't have stock either, although we've yet to officially confirm this.

So when will the Xperia Play make it to the UK? Our people in the know aren't 100 per cent sure, although those we've spoken to suggest that the delay is days rather than weeks.

Let's hope they are right.?

Firefox 4 for Android fires in

Super fast browsing on your mobile
Firefox 4 for Android fires in

Following the successful launch on Firefox 4 for desktops last week, Mozilla has now announced the arrival of Firefox 4 for Android (and Maemo).

Claiming that its new platform is up to three times faster than the standard stock Android browser, Firefox 4 is an all singing, all dancing, HTML5 bashing browser that syncs up with your desktop Firefox clients, meaning you can take your history, passwords, bookmarks and preferences with you on the go.

You can access all of this sort of stuff from the "Awesome Screen" - which is basically your one stop shop for all your mobile surfing needs.

Firefox 4 for Android also has full tabbed browsing, with tabs appearing down the left hand side, one-touch bookmarking, pinch or double tap to zoom and multiple sharing options with the usual suspects (Facebook, Twitter etc.) all on board.

It's also super customisable, with personas and add-ons included - just like the big screen version.

"Firefox for mobile allows users to take the Firefox experience they love everywhere and minimizes typing with features like tabbed browsing, bookmarks, add-ons and Firefox Sync," reads the official release info.

"With a sleek new look that hides browser controls when not in use, Firefox allows users to focus on the websites they visit."

Firefox 4 for Android is out now, and is free in the Android Market. Maemo users will need to use a direct download from Mozilla.

Lizamoon mass injection attack hits Apple iTunes

Lizamoon mass injection attack hits Apple iTunes

While you've been browsing around the web, you may have noticed that a few web URLs have been exhibiting a similar name in the address, Liza Moon. That's because of a new?malicious mass injection campaign that has been targeting thousands of sites with insecure code.

Lizamoon is an SQL mass injection attack that inserts a line of code into the URL ( ), and was discovered and identified by the?Websense Security Labs and the Websense Threatseeker Network. They're not sure what the effects of the attack are, because the site it points to is down at present, but have reported that over 28,000 sites have been hit, including many iTunes RSS/XML feeds for podcasts and lists of episodes:

"While it was up, the script contained simple JavaScript code that redirected the user to a well-known Rogue AV site:?hxxp://defender-uqko.in," said WebSense. "That site?is also unavailable right now,?so we don't have the actual binary analysis information available?yet."

The domain lizamoon.com was registered several days ago with "clearly fake information".

The Inquirer reminds us that it was an SQL mass injection attack, undertaken by hacker?Albert Gonzales (currently serving 20 years at Her Majesty's pleasure), that broke into the files of UK retailer TK Maxx and stole over 130,000 credit card numbers - some of which are still being cloned to this very day.

Thankfully, iTunes users shouldn't worry though as the code will not directly affect them: "The good thing is that Itunes encodes the script tags, which means that the script doesn't execute on the user's computer," WebSense states.
