AppToyz turns your iPhone into a controller for your RC toys

TOY FAIR 2011: Dongle plugs into your headphone jack
Apple iPhone, now controller for your RC toys

A UK company is about to turn your iPhone and iPod touch into a remote control for a whole host of toys, thanks to a cheap dongle that plugs into your Apple device's audio jack.

Media Sauce, the company behind AppToyz, has two remote control toys: A helicopter and a racing car, both controlled by your iPhone.

Unlike the Parrot AR Drone released in 2010, these remote controlled toys will work by attaching the dongle to the iPhone or iPod touch through the audio jack rather than the 30-pin dock connector.

All approved by Apple, says Media Sauce, the move means that rather than the ?300 price point of the AR Drone, the AppToyz helicopter will cost ?50 and the AppToyz car will cost ?30.

The remote controlled car and helicopter should be available around the same time as the company's other new device; the?App Gun.

The inventor of the company has told Pocket-lint that it plans to release more AppToyz in the year with Apple keen to get more kids in on the action.

?They want cranes?, our man told us. Get them young. Get them young.
