Minecraft, Fable, and Kinect Sports 2 coming to Kinect

Minecraft is making the leap to consoles, and will make its debut on the Xbox 360 with full support for Kinect, Microsoft announced at its E3 keynote. No real details were revealed about the console port, but the indie PC hit will be launched on the 360 next winter.

Also revealed was the much-rumored Kinect Star Wars, which appears to be an on-rails game with a plethora of vehicle segments, allowing you to ride everything from speeders in Coruscant to flying creatures through the skies of Bespin. Of course you can use your hands to swing lightsabers and perform force gestures, as well as use voice control to perform commands like "lightsaber on" to ignite the beam. No release window was announced.

More of a surprise was the announcement of Fable: The Journey, which also appears to be an on-rails game. Kinect's motion controls are used to swat at enemies, fire magical spells, and even control the reins on a horse-drawn carriage. It looks like much of the game takes place from a first-person perspective.

Meanwhile, Kinect Sports will be getting the sequel in the form of Kinect Sports: Season Two, which will feature six sports, including darts, tennis, football, skiing, and golf. In addition to new sports, the sequel also features new gestures, such as the ability to lean forward to zoom the camera in. And like almost every Kinect game showed off during the keynote, you'll be able to use voice controls in the game to do things like select clubs in a golf game or call plays in football.

Also revealed, and launching today for all Xbox Live users, is a feature called Kinect Fun Labs, which lets users experience upcoming new features in the form of tech demos. For example, one, called Kinect Me, lets you scan your face, hair, and clothes to create an avatar without having to shift through options. Another, called Object Capture, lets you scan real-world objects and turn them into digital ones. During the keynote, a presenter scanned the front and back of a stuffed animal, and it was subsequently turned into a 3D character on screen, which could be controlled through Kinect.
