A history of Microsoft's biggest acquisitions

The $8.5 billion purchase of Skype announced Tuesday would be Microsoft's largest acquisition. It made a $44.6 billion offer to buy Yahoo in 2008, but talks fell apart and the two companies ended up doing a search partnership.

aQuantive: $6 billion in 2007

Telewest Communications: $2.9 billion in 1999. A spinoff acquired from Comcast MO group.

Visio: $1.3 billion, 1999

Fast Search & Transfer: $1.2 billion, 2008

Navision: $1.2 billion, 2002

Great Plains Software: $1.2 billion, 2000
