It looks like Virgin Media has finally come good on its pact with Spotify, announcing that it will bring music streaming to its TiVo box and other services.?
Virgin media hasn't come clean on pricing yet, there will however be both Spotify unlimited and premium offerings.?This means a choice between internet- and TV-based Spotify, with premium subscribers getting mobile functionality.
Virgin Media aims to entice potential Spotify customers with exclusive offers and bundled content. Those who already pay for the service will find they can keep their usernames but still benefit from the yet to be announced Virgin Media deals.?
Spotify has been desperate to grow its base of paying subscribers for some time now. This deal with Virgin Media could be a major jump for the music streaming service, which if it's included in television and broadband packages, could see a major subscription increase. Pocket-lint spoke to Virgin Media who confirmed that there would be both unlimited and premium Spotify bundles, but kept schtum on pricing and release dates, saying they were to be announced in due course.
“We are delighted to have united the Virgin Media brand with the world’s best music service. Spotify will help our customers to fill their world with music, whether it’s at home or on the go, and provide a unique way to get even more out of Virgin Media’s leading digital services,” said Virgin Media's executive director of broadband Jon James.?
Existing Virgin Media customers will also benefit from an exclusive sign-up window, meaning they are likely get access to the new service before anyone else.
