Microsoft partners with UK firm Yell to sell online ads and cloud services

Microsoft is partnering with Yell, a print and digital marketing firm, to sell online advertising services to small and medium businesses on Bing and Yahoo.

Yell, based in Reading, England, has customers in the UK, Spain, Latin America and US. The two companies said Tuesday they plan to sell search, mobile and local advertising as well as Microsoft's cloud services.

Yell will sell Microsoft cloud services such as Office 365, Dynamics CRM (customer relations management) and communications software. Thomas Hansen, a Microsoft vice president of for small and medium businesses said in a statement, "Yell Group has one of the largest dedicated sales forces partnering with small and medium sized businesses and provides customers with valuable, locally focused internet directories that see over 50 million unique visitors per month."

Microsoft is holding its Worldwide Partners Conference in Los Angeles this week for its partner companies that resell, build on and offer services based on Microsoft products. Many partner companies form and announce alliances with each other, as well as Microsoft during the annual conference. This year's conference has drawn 12,000 attendees.

On Monday, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer urged companies to move to the cloud, where software and data will be stored on remote servers managed by cloud providers like Microsoft and accessed by customers on Internet-connected devices such as desktops, laptops, tablets, phones and televisions. Here is our earlier story on what Ballmer said in his Monday WPC speech.

On Tuesday at 9 a.m., Server and Tools President Satya Nadella, Business division president Kurt DelBene and Windows Phone head Andy Lees are expected to speak to WPC attendees.

I will be live blogging the speech at Microsoft Pri0, and sending out updates via Twitter @sharonpianchan but you can also watch along live at www.digitalwpc.com.
