D9: Tabletpalooza with Windows 8, WebOS and more

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- This year's D: All Things Digital 9 conference here at the Terranea resort south of Los Angeles looks like tabletpalooza.

Steven Sinofsky, president of Microsoft's Windows and Windows Live group, will give an update on Windows 8 and probably show it running on a tablet device Wednesday afternoon. I'm hoping he'll show it on one of the "ultrabook" PCs that were just announced in Taipei by Intel.

Sinofsky is appearing after a morning session with Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Leo Apotheker, who is about to start selling HP tablets running its WebOS operating system instead of Windows.

I'm here at the conference, which is Dow Jones enterprise, and will be blogging from the sessions, which run until Thursday afternoon. The closing speaker is AT&T Mobility President and CEO Ralph de le Vega, who may offer some kind of rebuttal to the formal objection Sprint filed today against AT&T's acquisition of T-Mobile USA.

I chatted briefly with Cher Wang, chair of HTC, who was toting one of her new Flyer tablets but isn't going to make a formal presentation during the event.
