Sadly it's not Gingerbread
HTC teased HTC Desire HD?and HTC Desire Z?owners on the eve of Christmas with word that it was releasing a update for the two phones.
“European Desire HD/Desire Z users - look out for an update rolling out from today that will make your mobile experience?even better”, said the company in a tweet on 23 December.
As you can imagine that tweet immediately got some of HTC’s 300,000 plus followers excited that they might be getting the newly announced Android 2.3 update on their HTC Desire HD or Desire Z, just weeks after Google officially announced it at the beginning of December - ahead of even the Nexus One (the only handset so far confirmed by name to be getting the update).
However, quickly realising that the comments could be taken to mean Gingerbread, HTC were quick to correct their tease:
“To clarify, the Desire Z/Desire HD update is a maintenance build based on all your feedback. Gingerbread is not a part of this?update”.
Hopes dashed for a while yet then.
Still, according to some users who’ve already received the update, the new install does make things a lot faster when moving between home screens. Users will also get a new phone dialler bringing Hold and Add call buttons plus a View Contact button. There’s also a new Memories skin and a new Christmas themed sound set.?
