BARCELONA, Spain -- If tiny iPod speakers aren't cutting it for you and your expanding digital music tracks, check out this home speaker system from Sonos. It channels music from iTunes and Web radio stations, such as Last.fm, using the iPhone, and now, Android.
The speakers, sold at Best Buy and other electronic stores, cost about $399 and have been available since 2005, and previously had an iPhone app that worked as a remote control and music supplier.
The company has just expanded to Android. The app can control and adjust multiple speakers and it features voice search for songs and artists.
"We try to play every song ever played," said Fiede Schillmoeller, a spokesman. "Android is a major step for us. It doubles our addressable maket."
Sonos is based in Santa Barbara, Calif., has expanded to Europe and recently started doing business in China.
The speakers do not work with Windows Phone 7 or Zune. Schillmoeller said it's not really a question of sheer numbers of phones sold or subscribers that will determine what platforms Sonos builds for. "It's more a question of what music lovers use," he said.
He declined to provide sales numbers for the company.
