The biggest event of the year, bar none
The 7th annual Pocket-lint Gadget Awards was held last night (8 December) in Piccadilly, London where the tech industry gathered to laugh, cry, laugh a bit more, then fall over.
They also got a pleasant surprise as parts of the ceremony were presented in 3D - a first for a Gadget awards in the UK - including a giant Stuart Miles, editor of Pocket-lint, looming over the captive audience (the doors were bolted) and handing the proceedings over to his more?diminutive?real self.
Plus, some of the nominated gizmos spun around in front of their very eyes. Oooo... It was like Avatar without the stupid nonsense about trees.
Apple walked off with two gongs, as did Amazon for its Kindle ereader and app, and Microsoft for the Xbox 360 S and Kinect, while Canon, Philips, HTC and Rovio got one apiece.
Then it was down to some serious mingling and imbibing of the grape and hop, which everybody achieved with considerable aplomb.
So, a massive thanks to all that could attend from the entire team at Pocket-lint, and an even bigger congratulations to the winners. See you this time next year.
We would also like to thank Firebox for supplying the goodie bags, Techinvasion for the Santa Penguin USB Flash Drives, re:creation for the Monty Python Wafer Thin Mints, Thabto for the Wonkeys, Wesco for the Retro Game Sweets, and Cygnett for the zip cables and iPhone cases.
Plus, big thanks go to Vodafone for its support with the judging dinner, Net Communities for support with the bar. Then there’s the judges for their help deciding what the best gadgets where, and finally you, the Pocket-lint reader, for supporting us in 2010. Long may it continue.
