BARCELONA, Spain -- Microsoft is the sixth most buzzed about brand on Twitter at Mobile World Congress. The Portland analytics company Webtrends is tracking mindshare via tweets.
Microsoft captured 7 percent of brands mentioned on Twitter. The most buzzed about brand is Samsung, which announced a new Galaxy smartphone and tablet on Sunday.
Microsoft is far behind Android in tweets about operating systems, where it has 16 percent compared with Android's 61 percent. This was measured after Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer spoke and before Google CEO Eric Schmidt gave his keynote.
Tweets about tablets have picked up this year compared with last, Webtrends said. In 2010, tablets had 208 mentions for the whole week. In the first 1.5 days of this year's trade show, tablets have been mentioned 4,278 times. That probably also reflects the growth of Twitter use at the show.
None of the Windows Phone 7 devices made the list of the three most mentioned smartphones. The three were the Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Xperia Play and iPhone Mini.
Here is a chart produced by Webtrends of all brands getting mentions on Twitter at the conference.
